FOX, MILTON ERNEST (1926 ~ 2007). The following is an obituary for former Member of the Texas House of Representatives Milton E. Fox. The obituary was published in the Austin American-Statesman on September 5, 2007.

"Milton E. Fox July 28, 1926 - Aug. 31, 2007

Preceded in death by parents Florence and Stanley Fox; sister Marilyn Fox Hearne; and daughter Helen Ann Fox. Survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Ruth Huffmaster Fox; son Bryan Fox, son Martin Fox, daughter Susan Fox Roderick and her husband Ken Roderick, and son Clayton Fox and his wife Beth Fox, grand-children Meagan Fox Ross, Andrew Campbell, Derek Fox, Brandon Fox, Michael Campbell, Preston Fox, and Christopher McDonald; great-grand- children Dillon Thomas Campbell and Robert Lee Ross.

U.S. Navy active duty July 1944 - June 1946. Member, United States Naval Reserve, 1946 - 1952. Honorable discharge Lt (jg). Graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, BS Petroleum Engineering, 1946. Met his future bride, Ruth Huffmaster while singing in the University of Texas Acappella Choir. Ordained Elder of the Presbyterian Church and member of the Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church, Austin, Texas.

Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas. Life member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Assistant Division Engineer for the Carter Oil Company 1946 - 1959. Division Operations Superintendent for the Tenneco Oil Company 1959 - 1970. Engineering Vice President for Ryder-Scott International 1970 - 1972. Consulting Engineer for Royal Dutch Venezuela 1973. First Republican elected to Lafayette, La., School Board and served 1964 - 1967.

Elected Texas State Representative for District 93 (Harris County) in 1972 and served as a member of the Texas State House of Representatives 1972 - 1986. Committee appointments included: Appropriations, Energy, Environmental Affairs, Intergovernmental Affairs, State Affairs, Transportation, Public Education, and Labor/Employment Relations. Republican Party nomination for Railroad Commission in Nov 1986 and Republican Party primary candidate for U.S. Senate in 1988.

Appointed Commissioner of the Texas Industrial Accident Board by Gov. Bill Clements in 1988. Served on this board 1988 - 1990. Retired from political service and became a school bus driver for the Eanes ISD, Austin, TX, 1992 - 2001. Affectionately known as 'Grey Fox' by his riders and their parents. Milton's interests included flying, music, politics, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He and Ruth celebrated 60 wonderful years together and enjoyed raising 5 children, serving in elected and appointed state political offices, singing in the church choir, and traveling. Milton's dedication to his family and his commitment to principles of honesty and integrity will be his greatest legacy to all of the many friends, family, and colleagues who had the honor to know him.

A graveside burial service will be held at the Texas State Cemetery on Wednesday, September 5, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. Friends are welcome to gather with family at the George Christian Reception Room on the cemetery grounds prior to the burial at 12 noon.

A memorial service will be held at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 2:00 p.m with a reception to follow at the church."
