WALLACE, JAMES PRICE (1928 ~ 2017). The following is an obituary for James P. Wallace, former Texas Senator, Railroad Commissioner and Texas Supreme Court Justice. The obituary was published in the April 20, 2017 edition of the Austin American Statesman.
WALLACE, James Price
James Price Wallace was born April8, 1928 (Easter Sunday) in Sidon, Arkansas to Belma and Harvey Wallace. He passed away April17, 2017 (4 hours AFTER Easter! - he was an Easter kind of guy).
He spent the majority of his life as a public servant: State Senator from Houston; Appellate Justice of The First Court of Appeals {Houston}; Justice on Texas Supreme Court; and Texas Railroad Commission (Governor Ann Richards appointed him to fill an unexpired term). He returned to private sector and practiced law with Soules and Wallace until he retired.
Jim was a family man, survived by his wife Martha, his son James P. Wallace, Jr. and wife Lisa and daughter Jill Wallace-Buchanan and husband, Daryl. He also had five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on April 27, 2017 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Riverbend Church, Austin, Texas. Jim was a big supporter of the Settlement Home, 1600 Payton Gin Rd., Austin, Texas 78758 and Querencia Employee Scholarship Fund c/o The Austin Community Foundation, 4315 Guadalupe Ste, 300, Austin, Texas 78751.
The family will be eternally grateful to the staff at the Querencia Plaza for such wonderful tender loving care they gave to Jim (Papa).
