HOWELL, PATRICIA ANN SMITH (1931~2003) Patricia Ann Smith Howell, wife of State Judge Charles Ben Howell, was born in Indiana on February 13, 1931, to Troy and Cecilia Smith. She attended Mt. Vernon High School and went to the State Finals, where she sang in a quartet. After graduation, she attended St. Mary‘s School of Nursing at Evansville, Indiana. After her marriage to Charles Ben Howell, they moved to Texas in 1957.

After moving to Dallas, Charles set up a law practice and later served as a Dallas County District and Appeals Judge. Patricia, or Pat, spent much of her husband‘s career working in his law practice and on his numerous political campaigns.

A 45-year member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Pat served her church faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and church treasurer. She was also a member of the League of Women Voters, and served as a Dallas County Grand Juror. She was president of the Lakewood Republican Women‘s Club.

The Howells have three daughters, Karen, Jonnette, and Jonnita, and two granddaughters, Chelsea and Ashley.
