LINDSAY, TONITA "Tony" LEE (1938 ~ 2024). The following is an obituary for Judge Tony Lindsay. The obituary was provided by Klein Funeral Home of Tomball.

Tony Lindsay passed away quietly and peacefully on March 5, 2024, surrounded by her husband and sons. Tony was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on October 14, 1938. Her family moved to Hobbs, New Mexico at nine for a drier climate for Tony’s health needs. She attended New Mexico State University for the express purpose of finding a husband. She succeeded in this effort by marrying Jon Lindsay, a Civil Engineering student, in 1958. She then followed Jon as he entered the Air Force in 1959.

They had three children – Steve Lindsay, Leslie Jon Lindsay, and Larry Lindsay. Steve was born in 1959 in Hobbs, NM before they moved to Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. They then moved to Waco, TX for Jon’s three years in the Air Force. L. Jon was born in Waco, TX in 1962. They moved to Houston, TX in 1962, where Jon eventually established a construction business, and Tony worked as the office manager. Larry was born in Houston, TX in 1965. Tony attended the University of Houston for her last year of undergraduate work in 1964. When Jon decided to go into politics in 1974, Tony was his treasurer and best campaigner, and together they won the County Judge seat on Commissioners Court.

Not wanting to be a stay-at-home housewife after her children graduated and left home, Tony chose a career in law and went to South Texas College of Law in Houston. She graduated third in her class in 1984. She then clerked for the 14th Court of Appeals under Judge Jack Smith. She also worked as an Assistant City Attorney in the City of Houston legal department and as an intern in the District Attorney’s Office, as well as in in private practice.

She was appointed by Governor Bill Clements to fill a vacancy as the Judge in the 280th Civil District Court, where she served for 22 years. Afterward, she retired and finally became a regular housewife with then Senator Jon Lindsay. Tony was also active in her church and served as a Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by her husband Jon, her sons Steve, L. Jon and Larry, her daughter-in-law Lisa Lindsay, her grandchildren Blake Lindsay and Eileen Lindsay, her sister Kathy Aikey, and her sister-in-law Carolie Wakefield.
