On May 27, 1861, Adams enlisted as a private in Company G of the 15th Mississippi Infantry in Corinitta, Mississippi. In 1873, Adams moved to Texas and settled in Montgomery County, where he was a farmer. On October 31, 1910, complaining of stomach trouble, Adams moved into the Confederate Men's Home in Austin. He lived at the Home until his death on September 14, 1913.
