FONDREN, PATSY RUTH GEORGE (1928 ~ 2014). The following is an obituary for Patsy Ruth George Fondren, spouse of former Texas House Member Gene Fondren. The obituary was provided by Weed, Corley, Fish Funeral Home.

Patsy Ruth George Fondren passed from this earth on December 16, 2014. Born November 1, 1928 in Plainview, Texas to G.C. and Ruby Hooper George, she grew up in Corpus Christi, and then moved to Austin after her marriage to Gene Fondren in 1948. Over the years, they raised three children, living in Taylor, Texas, Washington D.C. and Austin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene, brothers Roger, Bobby, and Ernest George, and sister-in-law Cookie George. She is survived by her children, Brenda (husband Eric), Beverly (husband John), and Charles (wife Jennifer), as well as six grandchildren, Dane, Will, Dashiell, Lang, Joshua, and Julia. She is also survived by her sister Peggy Burley and brother Kirk George, her sisters-in-law Genie and Julie George, and numerous nieces and nephews. All loved her greatly.

Those she leaves behind will remember her as a gracious woman who loved life and never complained, and who brought food and laughter with her wherever she went. She reminded us all to live in the moment, to be practical, and to count our many blessings. She cared for her family and friends her whole life and will be deeply missed. A bright light has gone from this earth, but she is lighting up the sky with her smile.

Her family extends its heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers at Nurses Case Management: Mary, Anna, and Cynthia, and the staff at Seton Hospital, especially Dr. Kushmit Grewal, for the kindness, caring and comfort they gave to Patsy.

A service to honor her life will be held Friday, December 19, 2014 in the chapel at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on North Lamar at 1 p.m. A graveside service will follow at the Texas State Cemetery.
