WOODRUFF, SR., GEORGE JEFFERSON (1917~2002) George Jefferson Woodruff, Sr., legislator and businessman, was born on May 20, 1917, in Cooper, Texas, where he lived until serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Woodruff moved to Houston after World War II living there until April 1999. He spent the last three years of his life with his family in Austin. He served two terms in the Texas House of Representatives for Harris County from 1948-1952. Also he was a real estate/insurance businessman, teacher. He loved singing and was choir director at South Main Baptist Church in Houston, and a choir member of Genesis Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas. He left a legacy behind to all who were indeed fortunate to have known this remarkable man. Veteran, statesman, businessman, educator, musician, husband, and father, Woodruff is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth Anne Woodruff, four sons, and nine grandchildren.
