KEEL, TERRENCE MCCAULEY (1958 ~ ). Terrence "Terry" Keel was born in Austin, Travis County, Texas on January 13, 1958 to Thomas Martin and Patricia O'Connor Keel. Growing up in Austin, Keel attended Austin Public Schools, Austin Community College, the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston. Upon receiving his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston, Keel was appointed Assistant District Attorney of Brazos County.

After holding that position for a year, he was appointed Assistant District Attorney of Travis County. While Assistant District Attorney, Keel took an active interest in law enforcement and in 1992 ran for and won the seat of Travis County Sheriff. Keel held the position until 1997 when he was elected a State Representative. During that time, Keel also served as a Faculty Member to the Austin Police Department Training Academy and as a Board Member on the Commission on State Emergency Communications.

He is currently serving on the Advisory Council of the Crime Victim's Institute and as an Advisory Board Member to St. Edward's University School of Behavioral and Social Sciences. Representative Keel is currently serving in the Texas House of Representatives and is the first Texas Legislator to succeed his mother in office.
