QUINN, JACK (1826 ~ 1910). Jack Quinn, Confederate veteran, was born in Ireland in 1826. Upon immigrating to the United States and Texas in 1860, he enlisted in the Confederate Army and was mustered into Company D of the First Texas Heavy Artillery, which was also known as Cook's Texas Heavy Artillery.
The First Texas Heavy Artillery was stationed at Galveston for much of the war. Many members of the unit were converted to Marine service at various points throughout the War. Quinn may have been converted to Marine service at one point as he is listed "absent on detachment" in War records during 1861 and 1862.
The unit surrendered on June 2, 1865 after service in Galveston and the upper-Texas Coast.
After the War, Quinn married Mary Josephine White in October, 1864, in Dallas County and settled in Ennis, where he worked as a laborer.
On April 8, 1894, Quinn, at age 68, moved into the Confederate Men's Home in Austin, and died 16 years later on June 13, 1910. He was buried in the Texas State Cemetery.
