| JONES, SILAS (1826 ~ 1909). Confederate veteran Silas Jones was born in Tennessee in 1826. During the Civil War he belonged to Company D, 30th Texas Cavalry. The 30th was organized in late 1862 and served in the Indian Territory.
Jones moved to Texas in 1852 and lived in Austin, Travis County where he was member of the Methodist Church. He was married, and his profession was listed as a farmer when he was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home on September 30, 1909. He died there on October 31, 1909 and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
