LUDWIG, CONRAD (1842 ~ 1909). Confederate veteran Conrad Ludwig was born in 1842 in Germany.

During the Civil War he fought with Company D, 6th Texas Infantry, Granbury's Brigade, Cleburne's Division in the Army of Tennessee. Company D originated in Matagorda County.

They fought at Chattanooga, Atlanta, and Franklin under Brigadier General H.B. Granbury, who coincidentally was killed at Franklin in November of 1864. The 6th Texas Infantry surrendered on April 26, 1865 at Greensboro, North Carolina.

Ludwig moved to Texas in 1846. He was not married and he was a laborer and barkeeper before his admittance to the Texas Confederate Men's Home on January 22, 1909, where he died March 4, 1909. He was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
