INGRAM JR., DENNY OUZTS (1929 ~ 2007). The following is an obituary for Denny Ouzts Ingram Jr., former member of the Texas House of Representatives. The obituary was published in the Austin American Statesman on October 18, 2007.
"Denny Ouzts Ingram, Jr., passed away on Sunday, October 14th, 2007. Born in Kirbyville, Texas on March 22, 1929, his father ran the Kirbyville Banner, where Denny often worked as a reporter.
In 1951, he proudly served as a member of the House of Representatives, Fifty Second Legislature for the State of Texas, resigning to join the United States Army, Counter Intelligence Corp, from 1951 to 1954. Denny received his Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin. Denny was a Trustee of the Southwestern Legal Foundation, a writer and researcher for the New Mexico Constitutional Revision Committee and Director of Research for the Utah Constitutional Revision Commission.
Denny practiced law in Texas for over 21 years, drawing on his experiences as he taught law as a Professor for 25 years. Using real life problems pulled from his experiences in private practice, he pioneered the 'problem method' of teaching law. He authored many law review articles, book chapters, legal courses and other legal education materials.
He was a life member of the American Law Institute, and a fellow in the College of Trusts and Estate Counsel, American College of Tax Counsel, and the Texas Bar Foundation. He was board certified in Estate Planning and Probate, and a member of the Texas State Bar, New Mexico State Bar, Utah State Bar, and the American Bar Association. Denny Ingram was a husband, father, lawyer, teacher and mentor to other lawyers. Most recently, he was a professor at the Texas Wesleyan University School of Law, where he received the Earl Brown Distinguished Faculty Award in 2004. Denny also served on the faculties of the Universities of Texas, New Mexico, Utah, California at Davis, and San Diego.
He was preceded in death by his parents Denny Ouzts Ingram, Sr. and Grace Bertha Smith Ingram, and his sister Alice Orinda Moore. Denny is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann Rees Ingram; his sister, Grace Angeline Griffin; sons, Scott Ingram and wife Susan Brown, and Stuart Ingram and wife Charlona Ingram.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2007 with Funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Texas State Cemetery."
