| SMITH, N. P. (1832~1908) N.P. Smith was born in Tennessee in 1832. He moved to Texas in 1854 and lived in Travis County.
During the Civil War he belonged to Company B, 5th Texas Cavalry, Green's Brigade in the Trans-Mississippi Department. The 5th was organized in September 1861 and participated in many skirmishes in New Mexico and Louisiana including Valverde, Glorieta Pass, Mansfield, and Pleasant Hill. The 5th was surrendered by E.K. Smith on May 26, 1865.
Smith was a widowed farmer before he was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home on May 5, 1903. He died at the Home on October 2, 1908.
