ALLEN, PETER (1830~1908)Peter Allen was born in Ireland in 1830. During the Civil War he belonged to Company E, 1st Alabama Infantry, Gardner‘s Brigade, Pope‘s Division. The 1st Alabama Infantry Regiment was the first to be organized by the State Legislature in 1861. The regiment organized in Pensacola, and was made up of men from Barbour, Lowndes, Macon, Pike, Talladega, Tallapoosa, and Wilcox Counties.

During the Civil War the 1st Alabama fought at Island No. 10 where most of the men were captured. Those that were not caught ended up fighting at Corinth. Once all the men were released from prison they ended up fighting at Port Hudson, New Hope, Mobile, Atlanta, Franklin, and Nashville.

Allen came to Texas in 1889 and lived in Fort Worth, Tarrant County where he was a member of the Methodist Church. He was a divorced laborer who suffered from rheumatism. He was admitted to the Confederate Men‘s Home on March 9, 1894 where he died November 21, 1908.
