| BURKE, JAMES A. (1830 ~ 1906). Confederate veteran James A. Burke was born in 1830. It is unknown where he was born.
Burke joined the Confederate Army on March 31, 1862 and served as a Private until the end of the Civil War. Burke joined the 19th Regiment of the Texas Infantry. The 19th Texas Infantry fought in numerous engagements in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana including the Red River Campaign, the Battle of Pleasant Hill and the Battle of Jenkins' Ferry where General Richard Scurry was killed. The unit surrendered at Galveston in June of 1865.
At the conclusion of the War, Burke settled in Dallas County, Texas where he was a farmer until being admitted to the Confederate Men's Home in Austin. He died at the Home on January 22, 1926 and was buried the following day.
