ELDER, JAMES L. (1832-1906) James Elder was in born in Georgia in 1832. Little information is known about his life until he enlisted into the 4th Georgia Infantry Company G on May 17, 1862.
Elder participated in grueling tasks during the war including the Maryland Campaign, Cold Harbor, the Seven Days Battle, the Shenandoah Valley Campaign, Malvern Hill, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. Elder fought even though he suffered from eczema in 1863, but was eventually forced from fighting in June of 1864 due to gun shot wounds.
After the war, in 1871, Elder moved to Texas. He resided in Lynchburg, Harris County where he lived as a farmer. He was admitted to the Confederate Home on April 29, 1905 and lived here until his death on Oct 8, 1906.
Elder was survived by his nephew W.F. Wilson.
