Dudley M. Thomas of Mount Pleasant, Texas passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015 in Houston, Texas at 76 years of age. He was born December 9, 1938 in Marshall, Texas to J.T. and Ruby Inez (Sikes) Thomas.
Dudley was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon. He was the former director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, serving for 40 years; he was a member of the DPS Quarter Century Club, Texas Police Association, Texas Sheriff Association, Texas Rangers Association and a Master Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Thomas of Mount Pleasant, Texas; son, Jay Thomas; daughter & son-in-law, Terry Reeder and Kelley Hull; granddaughter, Cassie Reeder; step-grandson, Zachary Hull; and great grandson Jaidyn Reese; brother, John E. Thomas; sister, Joan Doss; uncle and aunt, John and Elaine Thomas; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Marguerite Kennedy.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, March 9, 2015 at the State Cemetery in Austin, Texas. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday evening at the funeral home.
