CAVEN, LAURA ROBINSON (1926 ~ 2018). The following is an obituary for Laura Caven, spouse of former Texas House Member Walter Caven. The obituary was provided by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home of Austin.

Laura Robinson Caven died peacefully on October 25, 2018. She was born to Esther Woodward Robinson and Ralph Robinson on October 06, 1926 in Austin, Texas. She attended Pease Elementary, Allan Junior High and graduated from Austin High School. Laura was a lifelong Austin resident except for a brief period when she and her family lived in Mexico City.

Laura attended the University of Texas at Austin where she earned a BA in English and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. While working at the State Capitol, she met Walter Caven in 1949 and they married on October 23, 1951 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Laura and Walter spent many happy years together, raising their two children. During that time, she was active in a number of civic organizations including the Junior League of Austin, NSCDA in Texas, and The Settlement Home.

Laura's greatest joy was as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved entertaining family and friends and celebrating holidays at their home or in the Hill Country. And, she always looked forward to her poker group, a tennis match in the neighborhood or dinner at El Rancho. Her keen sense of humor endured, even as her memory faded.

Laura was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Walter Caven, her parents, and sister Pauline Robinson Miller. She is survived by her daughter Caroline Caven, son Dr. Tom Caven and wife Marsha; grandchildren Caitlin Caven and Andrew Caven and wife Stephanie. Other relatives include nephews and nieces James "Mike" Miller, Missy Jackson and husband Ron, Virginia Dupuy and husband Bob, Alice Hyde and husband Chris as well as cousins, Scott Caven and wife, Vivien and Mary Gay Caven Merritt.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Pellegrini for his years of compassionate guidance, as well as Hospice Austin and Belmont Village for their exceptional kindness and devoted care.

A private graveside service will be held at The Texas State Cemetery on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.

For those who wish, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice Austin or a charity of your choice.
