BRYANT, JOHN WILEY (1947~) John Wiley Bryant was born Lake Jackson, Brazoria County, Texas, on February 22, 1947. He attended Lake Jackson public schools and graduated in June 1965 from Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas. He received both his BA and JD degrees from SMU in 1969 and 1972. He was admitted to the Bar in 1972 and practiced law in Dallas. He served as counsel to a committee of the Texas Senate in 1973 and in 1974, was elected in a special election to the House of Representatives. He held that position until 1982 when he was elected to the Ninety-eighth and to six succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1983 - January 3, 1997). In 1996, he ran an unsuccessful campaign for nomination to the United States Senate. |
