COX, MARION CHILDRESS (1922 ~ 2018). The following is an obituary for Marion C. Cox, spouse of Frank T. Cox, member of the Civil air Patrol Commission. The obituary was provided by Harrell Funeral Home of Austin.

Marion Childress Cox died on Tuesday, March 14, 2018. She joined her lifetime partner Frank Cox, who proceeded in death on December 20, 2000.

Marion was born on August 9, 1922 in Lockhart, Texas to Thomas Franklin Childress and Alice Houston Childress. She had two brothers and two sisters that precede her in death, along with one remaining sister Joyce Spradley of Mansfield, Texas.

In 1938, Marion graduated from Lockhart High School. She was a clerk and manager for Gold Bond Redemption Center. From 1970 to 1980, she was employed with the State of Texas Comptroller’s office. Marion was also one of the original Rosie the Riveter’s with many other spouses of the deployed soldiers during World war II.

She is survived by four children: Frank T. Cox Jr. & wife Nona, Dandridge, Tenn., Jerie L. Orr & husband Philip F. Orr of Manchaca, Texas, Jesse & Teresa Cox of Schertz, Texas & Cynthia Thompson of Manchaca, Texas. Marion was also blessed with eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, which she was very proud of all their accomplishments.

The viewing will be on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 from six to eight in the afternoon. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at eleven in the morning. Burial will follow at State Cemetery, 909 Navasota Street, Austin, Texas.
