ANSCHUTZ, JONNIE EDES (1921 ~ 2005)

The following obituary appeared in the Austin American Statesman on January 20, 2006.

Jonnie Anschutz died December 21, 2005 in Austin, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband Everett L. Anschutz and her remarkable six older sisters. She is survived by her children, Robert E. Anschutz, Everett L. Anschutz, Jr., and Jane McLennan, and her five grandchildren, April Anschutz, Jeffrey Anschutz, Nathaniel McLennan, Christopher McLennan and Cathrynne McLennan.

Jonnie was born April 18, 1921 in McCamey Texas to John Edes and Virginia Cash Edes. She graduated from Roy B. Miller High School in Corpus Christi Texas and spent most of her married life with Everett in Austin Texas.

She worked many years for members of the Texas Legislature in their Capitol offices, including Senators A.M. Aiken, Jr. from Paris, Texas, Jep Fuller from Port Arthur and the late Senator Cris Cole of Houston Texas. She also worked for Robert S. Calvert during his term as Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court. She was an avid contract bridge player and teacher and enjoyed playing golf.

She and her husband retired to Wimberely, Texas in 1977 where they were both active in the community. They helped found the Wimberely Presbyterian Church where she served for a time as an elder. At the time of her death Jonnie resided in Houston, Texas. She joins her husband in the Texas State Cemetery in the shadow of the Capitol she loved so much.
