Calvert during his term as Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court. She was an avid contract bridge player and teacher and enjoyed playing golf.

She and her husband retired to Wimberely, Texas in 1977 where they were both active in the community. They helped found the Wimberely Presbyterian Church where she served for a time as an elder. At the time of her death Jonnie resided in Houston, Texas. She joins her husband in the Texas State Cemetery in the shadow of the Capitol she loved so much.
