Barbara Kendrick Pearcy

PEARCY, BARBARA JEAN KENDRICK (1923 ~ 2009). The following is an obituary for Barbara Jean Kendrick Pearcy, spouse of former Texas House of Representatives Member Cecil Pearcy. The obituary was provided by Weed, Corley, Fish Funeral Home.  

Barbara Jean Kendrick Pearcy was born on April 9, 1923, in Washington State to parents Carrie Katherine Kendrick and Kenneth Wendell Kendrick. She graduated high school in Sacramento, California, and attended the University of Washington as an art major. She enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and became a Navy Link Pilot Trainer. During World War II, she met and married C.W. Pearcy, Jr., a Naval Officer from Temple, Texas. After the war, the couple returned to Temple while C.W. Pearcy went to law school. They spent their marriage in Temple, Texas, and Austin, Texas, while C.W. practiced law, was a Certified Public Accountant and was also a State Representative of Bell County, Texas. She is survived by her four children: Patricia Sue Pearcy of Austin; Rev. C. W. Robin Pearcy, III, of San Saba, Texas; Kenneth Michael Pearcy of Georgetown, and Paul Garrett Pearcy of Austin and daughters-in-law, Debbra Pearcy, Cherry Pearcy and Nina Butts. C. W. Pearcy, Jr. preceded Barbara in death on February 23, 1988. Barbara Jean Kendrick Pearcy had four grandchildren: Michael Pearcy; Shannon Dylan Pearcy; Mattie Pearcy Parker, David Belsky; Robert Lee Pearcy and Christy Ann Wells. Barbara has two great grandchildren: Scarlet Pearcy; Zachary Pearcy and Harper Wells.

Barbara was an ideal Christian and active member of the First Baptist Church. She dedicated her life to Christ at the age of 16 years.

After the death of her husband, she became a grief counselor associated with Riverbend Church of Austin. She counseled hundreds of men and women after the loss of loved ones for over 10 years.

Barbara was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved God's natural creation and helped fund the purchase of land for Wild Basin Nature Preserve in Austin, Texas. She was an active member of the U.S. Navy Waves Civic Organization in Temple, especially the Women Veterans of World War II. Barbara was proud to be an American, a dedicated wife and mother and grandmother. She was an avid gardener, dog lover and best friend to many.

Services will be at the First Baptist Church in Austin at 901 Trinity on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. Interment is private.
