Kitty Higginbotham Lowry

LOWRY, KATHLEEN "KITTY" HIGGINBOTHAM (1924 ~ 2005). Kathleen "Kitty" Higginbotham Lowry was born July 27, 1924, in Sherman, Texas to Robert Reno Higginbotham and Lela Mae Benton.

In 1937, Kitty attended the London High School in New London, Texas. An explosion ripped through the school killing 311 of her classmates. Kitty survived and graduated from the high school on May 29, 1941. She went on to further her education by attending Texas Women's University, formerly known as Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas. She graduated from there on May 31, 1945.

After her graduation she was employed by the Starlight Operetta in Dallas, Texas where she performed and danced professionally. She later taught health, physical education, and modern dance in various colleges and high schools for 17 years. She retired from Lamar High School in Houston, Texas when her husband, Robert Lee Lowry, was appointed the first juvenile court judge in the State of Texas by Governor John Connally.

Kitty was known for providing entertaining activities and instilling creativity in her children by allowing them to attend backstage activities with her where they were introduced to the many actors who crossed the stages. Kitty instilled physical activity within her children by attending their many sports activities and tennis camps and camping trips.

Kitty was an avid reader with an inquisitive mind who researched various topics suited to her interests of nutrition, health, and the Bible. Kitty's passion for the art of dance never left her as she continued to practice and perform. Her love for the beauty of the outdoors remained as she enjoyed her garden club with her special friends.

Kitty passed away on October 8, 2005, peacefully at home and was interred in the Texas State Cemetery October 11, 2005.
