ROSS, ANDREW JACKSON (1905 ~ 1989). Andrew Jackson "Jack" Ross was born in Yoakum, Texas and lived in Edinburg from 1915 to 1950 before moving to Austin in 1950. Mr. Ross had a very active life in private and public service highlighted by: beginning law practice in 1934, and was the District Attorney of Hidalgo County from 1943 to 1950.

He was appointed Securities Commissioner of Texas in 1950 and became Secretary of State in 1952. He served on the Board of Pardons and Paroles under five Governors, being appointed member by Governor Allan Shivers in 1953, and serving as Chairman on the Board of Pardons and Paroles under Governors Price Daniel, John Connally, Preston Smith, Dolph Briscoe until he retired from office in 1971.

Ross passed away on Saturday, December 23, 1989, and was buried with his wife, Mozelle, in the Texas State Cemetery on Tuesday, December 26, 1989.
