SHOFNER, WILLIAM ALGEE (1906 ~ 1999). William Algee Shofner, state legislator, was born June 7, 1906, in Florence, Texas, to a pioneer Central Texas family. He practiced law in Temple and Killeen.
Prior to receiving his law license, he was a sports writer and columnist for the Temple Daily Telegram. He attended Baylor University in Waco and graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown. He received his Law Degree from the University of Texas in 1931.
He practiced criminal law in Temple, Texas, until 1935, when he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives. In 1939, he returned to Temple to practice law. During World War II, he worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
He was elected to the Texas Senate in 1948. In 1953, he joined the Railroad Commission as Senior Examiner, and retired in 1971.
