FISK, JACK GORDON (1925 ~ 2014). The following is an obituary for former Texas House Member Jack Fisk. The obituary was provided by Triska Funeral Home.
Jack Gordon Fisk, age 89 of El Campo, passed away on May 21, 2014. He was born on February 22, 1925 in Peaige, Texas to the late James and Alice Phillips Fisk. Jack served as a Tech Sergeant in World War II for the United States Army and also served as a Combat Medic for 3 years. He served in all of the European Battle Campaigns and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
After being discharged in 1945, Jack purchased Louise Drug Store and opened a real estate broker's office in 1946. He was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1950 for 2 terms and served on the Legislative Budget Board. In 1963 Jack was appointed Commanding General of the Texas State Guard. He did ranching and sold real estate until retiring in 2011, maintaining his broker's license until he died.
Jack was a Life Member of DAV Chapter 72 in El Campo and served as Commander for 14 years, Life Member of VFW Post 2786 and served as chaplain for 20 years, Paid Up For Life Member of American Legion Post 251 and served as Commander in 2005, and a member of The Sons of the Republic of Texas.
He is survived by the Edmund Weinheimer Family, whom he "adopted" as his family and by Sharon Knight of Austin and Jeff Walters of San Antonio, who "adopted" Jack as their father.
Visitation will be Friday from 12pm until 7pm at Triska Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 am on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Triska Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Van Hooks officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at Texas State Cemetery in Austin on Saturday at 3 pm.
Pallbearers are Darryll Chromcak, Greg Chromcak, Christopher Chromcak, Michael ReIfslager, Travis Krpec, James Sanders, Steven Sanders, and Clint Bain.
