HALE, CAROL MOORE (1925 ~ 2008). The following is an obituary for Carol Moore Hale, spouse of former Texas House of Representative Member L. DeWitt Hale. The obituary was provided by Weed - Corley - Fish Funeral Home.

"Heaven welcomed a new Angel on January 1, 2008 when Carol Moore Hale was called home by the Lord. An Angel all her 82 years on Earth, she will be a star attraction among the other Angels in Heaven.

Born October 27, 1925 in Gainesville, Texas, Carol spent her early years in Celina. She graduated from Celina High School in 1942, North Texas A & M College at Arlington in 1944 with an Associate in Science degree, and Texas Woman's University in Denton in 1946 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Carol's teaching career in elementary education spanned three decades, interrupted midway for fourteen years to permit full time attention to the raising of a family. She was a classroom teacher at Dallas Country Day School, 1946-47; Sam Houston Elementary School in Corpus Christi, 1947-54; and Casa Linda Elementary School in Corpus Christi, 1968-80. On her retirement in 1980 to become a full-time homemaker, she was honored by the Corpus Christi Independent School District with a plaque: 'A Tribute to Carol Hale in Appreciation of your faithful service in furthering the educational welfare of children in Corpus Christi.'

In the summer of 1946 while shopping on the streets of Celina, she met a young man from Farmersville who was campaigning for public office. He introduced himself, handed her a card, and asked for her vote in the coming election. 'I'm not old enough to vote,' she replied, 'but I wish you well.' A short conversation ensued during which time the young man sought and was successful in obtaining her telephone number, resulting in a romantic courtship over a period of several months.

Following a proposal on New Years Eve 1946, Carol was married to the ambitious young politician, L. DeWitt Hale of Farmersville, in the Celina Methodist Church on June 8, 1947. '...'til death do us part' was a sacred commitment to both Carol and DeWitt and resulted in a lifelong marriage of more than 60 years, a marriage both agreed could not have been happier or more rewarding.

Carol is survived by her husband, L. DeWitt Hale of Austin; one daughter, Janet Wilde of Austin; and three grandchildren, Brandon DeWitt Wilde, Jennifer Lauren Wilde, and Thomas Joseph Wilde, all of Austin. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ray Moore of Wichita Falls; and one daughter, Nancy Carol Hale.

Pallbearers will be Brandon DeWitt Wilde, Thomas Joseph Wilde, Gery Thomas Wilde, James A. Turman, Orin Winn, Norman Powers, Jack Wilson, and Michael Hickey.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar, Austin, on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at 2 o'clock p.m., followed by interment in the Texas State Cemetery.

The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff of Park Bend Health Center for tender, loving care given to Carol in the months preceding her death.

In lieu of flowers, those caring to do so may make a contribution in memory of Carol to Park Bend Health Center or to a charity of their choice."
