Carl Clara Hardin, Sr.

HARDIN, CARL CLARA (1882~1965) Hardin was a native of Lone Oak, Hunt County, Texas and was a graduate of Add-Ran and Tarleton Colleges. After his schooling, he went into banking and the retail drug business in Stephenville. Hardin was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1923 and was elevated by his constituents to the State Senate in 1925. While in the Senate, Hardin served with honor and distinction authoring the Texas Homestead Law, the creation of the Child Welfare Department and much other good, and wholesome, legislation. In all, Hardin served in 28 sessions of the Legislature including special sessions. After his voluntary retirement from office, Hardin became the Personnel Director of the original Texas Relief Commission. After working for the Relief Commission, Hardin became the Executive Director of the Texas Private Truck Owners Association. He held that position until his death on Tuesday, May 11, 1965. For twenty-five years, Hardin was a faithful and active member of the Texas society of Association Executives and served in all of its elective offices, including that of President.
