| WRIGHT, ARVILLA G. (1852~1945) Arvilla G. Wright was born on August 18, 1852, in Victoria, Live Oak County, Texas to George Washington and Amanda Wright, both of Tennessee. She never married. She was the daughter of Tennessee pioneers who came to Texas before the battle of San Jacinto. Her father fought with Sam Houston at the battle of San Jacinto. She took care of the children of Confederate soldiers while their mothers sewed. She taught the children of Confederate soldiers and also knitted and sewed. She entered the Confederate Women's Home due to her work for the cuase of the Confederacy. She died on February 13, 1945, in Austin, Texas, at 92 years of age. |
