DECHMAN, HENRIETTA BELLE MCQUEEN MEYERS (1854-1941) ~ Henrietta Belle McQueen Meyers Dechman, Confederate Widow, was born in Union Springs, Alabama on July 20, 1854, to Lewis McQueen of Bullock County, Chunnenuggee, Alabama and Millicent C. Fontaine of Alabama. They were married on January 12, 1847, in Mobile County, Mobile, Alabama. Henrietta moved with her father to Galveston, Texas after the death of her mother in 1874, where Lewis worked as a cotton buyer. They then moved to Brazos County, Bryan, Texas where Lewis remarried to Mollie Clower and had two more children, one of them Lewis McQueen, Jr. It was at this time that Henrietta met and married Eprhriam Meyers in Bryan, Texas and they lived there all of their married life until his passing. Henrietta had one daughter from this marriage, Mollie Meyers, but the child only lived to be 2 1/2 years old.
Henrietta then met and married Alexander McRae Dechman on January 11, 1911, in Grayson County, Texas. A.M., as he was referred to, was a Confederate Veteran, who served in Company E of the 19th Regiment of the Texas Cavalry. A.M. and Henrietta moved and settled in Dallas County, Texas where A.M. passed away on April 11, 1915, and is buried in Dallas County.
Henrietta moved to Bexar County, San Antonio, Texas and presumedly lived with her niece, Mrs. C. A. Hart until her admittance to the Confederate Womens Home on October 22, 1935. She lived there until her passing on March 9, 1941, and was interred in the State Cemetery the following day.
