VAN PELT, INDIA A. MITCHELL (1852 ~ 1941). Confederate widow India A. Mitchell Van Pelt was born on December 22, 1852, in North Carolina to Leonard and Jane Goodman Mitchell.
She married Joseph Wesley Van Pelt after the Civil War and moved to Texas at an unknown date. The couple likely moved to Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas and had one child, a son, named George William Van Pelt. After her husband died, she applied for entry to the Texas Confederate Woman's Home at Austin from Dallas. She was admitted on May 26, 1937 and died at the Home on May 27, 1941.
Her son and his wife (name unknown) attended her funeral at the Texas State Cemetery.
