WYATT, MARY ELIZABETH (1844-1938) ~ Mary Elizabeth Wyatt, wife of Confederate Veteran Riley White Wyatt, was born in Alabama on December 15, 1844, to Austin Mayfield of South Carolina and Julia Ann Whittington Mayfield of Alabama.

At the age of eleven, in 1855, Mary and her family moved to and settled in Van Zandt County, Edom, Texas. Mary's husband, Riley was also living in Van Zandt County but, in 1861, he married Zilpha Wyatt of South Carolina. They had three known children: John A., William, and Thomas born 1862, 1864, and 1868, respectively. Presumedly Zilpha passed away and on March 7, 1882, Riley and Mary married in Van Zandt County, Texas. Riley and Mary lived in Van Zandt County up until the time of Riley's death which was on September 18, 1913. He is buried in Edom Cemetery. One month later, Mary is shown to be living in Henderson County, Muchinson, Texas, presumedly with a relative.

From 1913, until September 29, 1935, Mary lived in Muchinson. On September 30, 1935, she was admitted to the Confederate Women's Home in Travis County, Austin, Texas where she died a little over three years later on November 6, 1938. She was interred at the Texas State Cemetery the same day.
