SAMANIEGO, E. MANUEL (1844~1935) Confederate veteran E. Manuel Samaniego was born in Bexar County, Texas on March 2, 1844, to Eddie Samaniego, of Spain, and Bettie Gonzales. Samaniego worked as a laborer while he grew up in San Antonio.

When the Civil War broke out, Samaniego joined a Texas Cavalry unit which stayed in Texas and defended the frontier from Indian attacks. Family records suggest he joined the unit at Wimberley, Texas and he stayed with the unit until the close of the War.

Samaniego did not marry and was a Church of Christ member. He lived in San Antonio for much of his life after the Civil War. He moved to the Texas Confederate Men's Home in Austin on May 21, 1934.

Samaniego died on January 15, 1935, at the age of 90. He was buried at the Texas State Cemetery the next day.
