HOLLAND, JOHN M.(1843~1931). John Holland was born in Tennessee in 1843. During the Civil War he served in Company I, 52nd Tennessee Infantry. Mr. Holland enlisted in 1861 at Decatur County, Tennessee. He served under Captain W.R. Akin and Colonel B.J. Lee. He was captured near Corinth by Grant's army while sick with typhoid fever and later imprisoned on the Tennessee River. He was paroled in 1864 and joined a volunteer cavalry company, but saw no action.

Holland came to Texas in 1887 and lived in Bonham, Fannin County where he was a member of the Baptist Church. He was a widowed farmer who suffered from old age. He was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home on October 21, 1921 where he died May 22, 1931.
