BEELER, NANCY (1849 ~ 1936). Confederate widow Nancy Beeler was born in Missouri in 1849. There is no record of her maiden name, but both of her parents were from Tennessee.
Nancy Beeler married Confederate veteran William Haskell Beeler on August 25, 1867 in White County, Arkansas. During the Civil War, William Beeler served in the 19th Infantry of Arkansas under Colonel Charles L. Dawson. In 1868, the couple moved to Athens, Texas, but moved back to Arkansas in 1880. After living in Wolf Creek, Arkansas until 1885, the couple moved to Smith County, Tyler, Texas.
Once back in Texas, William Beeler applied for a Confederate Pension in 1900, and lived in Smith County until 1925. On June 9 of that year he moved to the Confederate Veterans Home in Austin, Texas. Nancy Beeler lived in Murchison, Texas, until September 19, 1925 when she joined her husband at the Home.
William Beeler died on December 8, 1926, and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery. Eight days later, Nancy Beeler was transferred to the Confederate Women's Home where she remained until her death on March 25, 1935. She was buried next to her husband at the State Cemetery. One known relative was a Laura Nams Nance, who lived in Mexia, Texas.
