THOMAS, GEORGE WASHINGTON (1844 ~ 1930). George W. Thomas, Confederate veteran, was born August 12, 1844, in Ball Play, Monroe County, Tennessee.
He enlisted in Company B, 3rd Tennessee Regiment on April 26, 1861, at Madisonville, Tennessee, and served for 15 months. He then enlisted in Company G, 2nd Regiment Tennessee Cavalry on March 1, 1863 at Sweetwater, Tennessee. Thomas was paroled in April 1865 at Washington, Georgia.
Following the War, Thomas moved to Texas in 1880 and worked as a farmer. He was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home from Weatherford, Texas on May 12, 1916 suffering from general debility. Thomas died on May 26, 1930 and was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
Thomas was married at some point, though he was a widower when he entered the Home. On his Confederate Home Roster, Thomas listed a son, "Jno. B. Thomas" in Newcastle, Texas, as a contact person.
