| SHERMAN, HORACE B. (1832~1893) Horace B. Sherman was born in New York in 1832. Upon moving to Texas in 1857, Sherman settled along the Gulf of Mexico in Rockport. During the Civil War, Sherman fought in Company A, 3rd Texas Cavalry in Ross’ Brigade. After the War, it is believed that he returned to Rockport and farmed until he was no longer able to care for himself. After his wife’s death, Sherman moved to Austin, Texas, where he was entered into the Confederate Men’s Home on January 7, 1893. Mr. Sherman died on December 25, 1893, and was buried in the Texas State Cemetery.
