GANNAWAY, Christopher Columbus (1846-1928) ~ Christopher Columbus Gannaway was born in Mississippi in 1846. At the start of the war, Gannaway joined Co. D 28th Mississippi Calvary in Starks Brigade of the Chalmers Division. He was honorably discharged from the service on May 8, 1865. Eleven years later, in 1876, Gannaway moved to Texas and resided in Columbus, Brazos County, where he was a school teacher. On June 24, 1927, he was admitted to the Confederate Mens Home in Austin, TX and died there on December 24, 1928. He was buried two days later in the Texas State Cemetery.
