MOORE, ALEXANDER HAMILTON (1841 ~ 1926). Alexander Hamilton Moore, Confederate veteran, was born in Leake, or Madison County, Mississippi in 1841, to James Clyde Moore and Margaret Ann Stevens. He was one of 12 children.
On March 10, 1862, Moore enlisted in the Confederate Army in Canton. He was mustered into Company C, or the Confederate Company, of the 18th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry. He later transferred to Company G, the Camden Rifles.
After joining this regiment, Moore participated in numerous campaigns, including the Seven Days' Battles, Cold Harbor, Chickamauga, and Knoxville.
After Lee's surrender and the War's end, he returned to Mississippi, where he engaged in farming. Around 1873, he moved to Texas and settled in Brookshire, Waller County, where he continued farming. In 1911, he successfully applied for a Confederate Pension from the State of Texas.
After obtaining his pension, Moore moved to the community of Buckholts in Milam County. From there he moved to Austin to live in the Confederate Men's Home. He moved in on June 13, 1916, and lived there until his death on September 19, 1926. He was later buried in the Texas State Cemetery.
According to family records, Moore never married, but he listed himself as a widower when he entered the Confederate Home. His next of kin was listed as two brothers, R. F. and W. M. Moore, and a Mrs. Jane Sones, who was possibly a sister.
