COOK, WILLIAM AUSTIN (1840 ~ 1925). Confederate veteran William Austin Cook was born in 1840 in Georgia.

Cook enlisted in the Confederate Army on March 19, 1862 in Jacksonport, Arkansas at the age of 21. He was assigned to the 25th Regiment of the Arkansas Infantry.

His records indicate he spent six months in the cavalry and the rest of his time in the infantry. The last time he appeared in records was August 31, 1864. According to his Confederate pension application he surrendered at Jonesboro, Georgia.

Cook moved to Texas in 1876. He was a farmer and a resident of Grimes County.

Cook was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home in June of 1918 and died there at the age of 84. He was buried at the Texas State Cemetery.

His son W.P. Cook (from Leander, in the Liberty Hill area) was listed on Confederate Home Roster records as a contact person.
