COPELAND, JOSIAS S. (1845~1935) Josias, or Joe, Copeland was a Private in Company G of the 3rd Kentucky Cavalry. Records also indicate his company became known as Company G, 3rd Kentucky Mounted Infantry. There are no military muster rolls found for Copeland.

Not much is known of Copeland?s early life. He was born in Colloway County, Kentucky to Amos Copeland and Mary Cearley Short. He was the 13th child of 15.

According to the Confederate Home Roster, Copeland came to Texas in 1867, and was a farmer in Ranger, Texas. He applied for a Confederate Pension in Eastland County and was admitted to the Confederate Men?s Home July 30, 1929. He lived there until his death in 1935, and was buried in the Texas State Cemetery December 28, 1935.
