ABBOTT, HENRY H. (1847~ 1925), Confederate veteran, was born in Campbell County, Georgia in 1847. He enlisted in the C.S.A. in October of 1864, and according to his pension application, served in Captain Tom Glenn's Independent Battery of Georgia Artillery until May of 1865. The unit was surrendered to Sherman on September 2, 1864 at Atlanta. The War Department showed no record of a Captain Tom Glenn's Independent Battery of Georgia Artillery, and Abbott's pension application was contested because of it. However, there is no question that he served. (Henry Abbott's name appears on Captain William H. Burroughs' Tennessee Light Artillery's muster roles.) This suggests that Abbott may have joined the C.S.A. in Georgia, and later met up with William H. Burroughs' Company in October of 1864 just in time for General Joseph E. Johnston's surrender at Greensboro, North Carolina. Abbott presumably was held until May of 1865 when he would have been paroled. Due to the appearance of his name on Burroughs' muster roles, his pension was granted.
After the War, Abbott moved to Texas in 1877, and settled in Midlothian, Ellis County. He worked as a laborer until September 5, 1916, when he was admitted to the Confederate Men's Home, where he remained until his death, on August 11, 1925. Abbott never married or had any children. He did, however, have a brother, William , who lived in Pilot Springs, Georgia.
