| PLEDGER, GEORGE (1840 ~ 1920). Confederate veteran George Pledger was born in 1840 in Georgia.
Pledger enlisted in the Confederate Army on March 4, 1862 in Chattooga County, Georgia. He was assigned as a Private to Company H, 39th Regiment of the Georgia Infantry in the Army of Tennessee.
The Georgia Infantry saw extensive action, including engagements at Champion's Hill and Vicksburg. Pledger and his Regiment were captured at Vicksburg and released shortly after in a prisoner exchange.
After being discharged in 1865, Pledger moved to Texas to become a farmer. He settled near Houston, but there is little information beyond that.
Pledger entered the Confederate Men's Home in November of 1919. He died November 24, 1920 and was buried in the State Cemetery.
