HARVEY JR., WILLIAM KESTER (1918 ~ 2013). The following is an obituary for William Kester Harvey Junior former commissioner for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission. The obituary was provided by Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home.
William Kester Harvey, Jr., better known as WK or Bill, departed this life peacefully at home on October 16, 2013 at age 95.
He was born September 14, 1918 in Dickens County between Spur and Dickens. He graduated from Spur High School in 1937 and then went on to graduate from Texas A&M in 1941 with a degree in Sociology and Economics.
Bill met the love of his life on a trip to Houston while he has in college. He married Wanda on April 5th, 1942. They had 72 loving years of marriage. They lived in the Houston area for their entire marriage.
Upon graduating he moved to Houston starting his career in vocational rehabilitation. His entire 36 year career was spent in service to the disabled citizens of Texas. He was the commissioner of the Texas Rehabilitation Commission when he retired in 1981.
Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Kester Harvey, Sr.; his mother, Lela Slaton Harvey; and sister, Polly Dempsey.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda S. Harvey; brother, AJ Harvey of Lubbock; sister, Mary Randel of Nicoma Park, OK; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, October 22nd at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin.
