MILLER, JACK REEVES (1930 ~ 2017). The following is an obituary for Jack Miller, former judge of the 64th Judicial District of Texas. The obituary was provided by Weed, Corley, Fish Funeral Home of Austin.

Jack Reeves Miller, 86 passed away on Monday, May 22, 2017 in Austin, Texas. Graveside services will be held Friday, May 26, 2017 at The Texas State Cemetery, 909 Navasota Street in Austin at 10:00 a.m. Visitation with the family will be at the Westover Hills Church of Christ, 8332 Mesa Drive in Austin beginning at 1:00 and the Memorial at 2:00 p.m.

Jack Reeves Miller was born September 13, 1930 in Dimmitt, Texas the only child of Caleb Goodwin and Jeanie Bills Miller. Jack was raised in Dimmitt enjoying sports where he was all district in football, drama, FFA, and was the first Eagle Scout in Castro County. He then attended Abilene Christian College where he met the love of his life – Murna Loy Welch from Friona, Texas. They both transferred and graduated from Texas Technological College and were married on August 28, 1951. Four children were born out of this union and they were blessed to celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary last year with this family.

They moved to Jack's dad's farm in 1952 and he farmed until drafted into the army during the Korean Conflict for two years in Alabama and Georgia. After returning home, Jack went to the University of Texas Law School, graduating in 1958 and returned to Dimmitt to practice law forming the partnership of Moran and Miller, Attorneys at Law. He also helped form Dimmitt TV Cable Company in 1964.

In 1981, Jack became the 64th District Judge for Castro, Swisher, and Hale Counties. He continued as a Senior District Judge, sitting on the bench through the spring of 2016.

Through the years, Jack was very instrumental in promoting Dimmitt, serving as President of the following; Chamber of Commerce, School Board, Castro County Library Board, Castro County Country Club as well as Explorer Advisor in Boy Scouts. He also served as an officer in the Jaycees and Lion's Club as well as serving as Elder in the 4th and Bedford Church of Christ from 1969-1993.

In 1993, they moved to Plainview where they also enjoyed the civic whirlwind, meeting many new friends and were active in Rotary and the 9th and Columbia Church of Christ. During this time, they also built a home on Lake LBJ where they enjoyed hosting many family and friends before moving to the Austin area. Jack and Murna have spent the last few years in Westminster Manor.

Jack was a man of many talents and was quick witted with a dry sense of humor. He loved to travel with his family as well as friends and was very adventurous. He loved God and his family deeply and walked in integrity. He was known as a very fair judge.

He is survived by his "beautiful, loving and wonderful" wife, Murna and their four children. Brent and Linda Miller of Carrollton, Texas; Kim and Norman Hays of Dimmitt, Texas; Hal and Cyndy Miller of Austin, Texas and Cara and Bingiee Shiu of Houston, Texas. Grandchildren; Craig Miller, Chris Miller, Conner Miller, Taryn and Jess Owen, Ryan and Alyson Hays, Jason and Brooke Miller, Kyle and Lyndsay Miller, Brad and Sara Miller, Daniel and Valerie Shiu and Nike Shiu. Great-grandchildren; Luke Hays, Deianna Alvarez, Mahliea Miller, Santiago Miller, Irie Miller, Jayde Miller and Fallyn Miller.
