RODRIGUEZ, CHARLES G. (1953 ~ ). The following is a biography for former Texas Adjutant General Charles G. Rodriguez. The document was provided by the Rodriguez family.

"General Rodriguez served as the Texas Adjutant General from 2005 through 2009. He was appointed by Governor Rick Perry for this statewide state service, noteworthy as the first Hispanic American to serve as Texas Adjutant General. General Rodriguez and his wife Cappy are veterans of active duty and reserve military service, she with more than 22 years as both an NCO and commissioned officer and he 33 years as a commissioned officer.

General Rodriguez's father, Colonel (USA) Joseph C. Rodriguez (1928-2005) was a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor (Korea, 1951) and is honored by a cenotaph, also at the Texas State Cemetery. His father (d. 2005) and mother, Rose (d. 2022), resided in El Paso, Texas and both are buried in San Bernardino, California.

General Rodriguez was a U.S. Military Academy (West Point, NY) graduate, class of 1975, commissioned as a Signal Corps officer. He served eight years active duty during the Cold War period with command and staff assignments in the 101st Airborne (Air Assault) Division and the 1st Armored Division in the U.S. and in West Germany. Further, he served an additional 11 years in the U.S. Army Reserves in command and joint staff assignments. Beginning in 1995, he joined the Texas Army National Guard and served as commander of the 136th Signal (Corps Area) Battalion, commander of the 136th Regional Training (Combat Arms) Institute, and Deputy Commander of the 71st Troop Command with additional responsibilities as Assistant Adjutant General for Homeland Defense in Texas.

He retired from military service in 2009 and returned to San Antonio, Texas, where he worked in higher education as a senior administrator and faculty member at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, Hallmark University, and Our Lady of the Lake University, as well as in enterprise security at Rackspace Technology.

His education included a Bachelor's Degree in Science from West Point, Master's Degree in Arts (Marketing Research) from Wheaton College, IL, Master's Degree in Business Administration (Marketing) from Keller Graduate School in Chicago, IL, Master’s Degree in Science from The University of Texas at San Antonio (Management of Technology), and a Doctorate of Philosophy (Philanthropic Leadership) from the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, OH, and completion of resident senior service college at the Inter-American Defense College in Fort McNair, District of Columbia.

General Chuck Rodriguez and Cappy had two children: Christopher Ray and Johnny Marie. They had five Texas-born grandchildren: Ashlinn and Kelsie Rodriguez plus Layla, Noah, and Julia Canales.
