DANIEL, WALTER R. (1840~1916). Walter R. Daniel was born in Petersburg, Virginia. He served in a Mississippi regiment during the War.

Following the War, he came to Texas and married Annie Elizabeth Dowling, widow of Dick Dowling, on February 16, 1870 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Galveston. Mr. Daniel organized a regiment known as the Confederate Guard and became colonel. He was also commander of the Sterling Price Camp of Dallas. He had three sons and two daughters. He died on August 16, 1916 at his home in Port Neches, Texas. He was buried at the Texas State Cemtery on August 17, 1916.
