Celebrate Texas Independence Day Friday (02/26/2014)

The Texian Legacy Association and Celebrate Texas will have a Texas Independence Day Ceremony at the Cemetery this Friday at 3 p.m. See the news release below from Celebrate Texas for more details.

The members of Celebrate Texas and the Texian Legacy Association will hold the annual Memorial Service for the Veterans of the Texas Revolution at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin on Friday, February 28th at 3:00 AM. The general public is welcome and encouraged to attend. We will have a guest speaker and reenactors in period dress who will fire a musket volley to honor the Great State of Texas and the men and women who made her so.

Following the memorial there be a brief memorial at Jay Johnson's graveside at the State Cemetery and another volley will be fired in his honor.

Following this, Texian Legacy Association Historian, Charlie Yates, gave a very brief tour of a few selected heroes who are buried in the cemetery on Republic Hill. We did this in previous years and it was great fun, so we'd encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the memorial service at one of the most beautiful spots in Austin.

To get to the State Cemetery, from IH 35 go East on 7th street to Navasota and turn left.
The main cemetery building will be about a block up the street on the right.
You can't miss it. It's at the bottom of the biggest flag pole in east Austin.
