Chris Kyle Funeral Photos

Chief Petty Officer Chris Kyle was laid to rest at the Texas State Cemetery during a private service yesterday afternoon. Chief Kyle's funeral was attended by more than 300 friends, family and servicemen along with numerous Patriot Guard riders. The Austin Police Department Pipe and Drum Corps escorted the casket from the hearse to the graveside along with pallbearers from the United States Naval Reserve. Texas State Guard Chaplain Larry Todd gave a brief graveside service and was followed by a seven-person firing party from the Texas Army National Guard. The Navy honor guard folded the casket flag and presented it to Kyle's widow. Two Texas Air National Guard F-16s performed a flyover as the flag was presented to the widow by a Naval officer. Texas State Cemetery Committee Chairman Scott Sayers gave brief remarks on the Cemetery and then First Lady Anita Perry presented a Texas flag to the family. The ceremony was concluded by a U.S. Navy SEAL "Hooyah" ceremony in which more than a hundred SEALs stuck their SEAL Trident insignia into the casket as a final farewell.

The Texas State Cemetery wishes to thank the Texas Department of Public Safety, Austin Police Department and all other law enforcement organizations for logistical and security assistance. The Cemetery also wishes to thank the more than one hundred Navy SEALs, the Texas National Guard Honor Guard and the United States Naval Reserve Honor Guard for their attendance and their service. The State Cemetery also wishes to thank the members of the media for their discretion and understanding of the family's wishes for the burial to remain private. Finally, the Cemetery wishes to thank the hundreds of well wishers and private citizens who wished to pay their respects to Kyle and his family, but remained outside the Cemetery until the conclusion of the funeral. Cemetery grounds are open 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the public is invited to visit Chief Kyle's grave along with the other 3,000 honored Texans interred within its grounds.
