Governor appoints Bayless to the Texas State Cemetery Committee

Gov. Rick Perry has appointed James L. "Jim" Bayless, Jr. of Austin to the Texas State Cemetery Committee for a term to expire Feb. 1, 2017. The three-member committee oversees the day-to-day operations of the Texas State Cemetery. As required by statute, this position is appointed by the governor from a list recommended and submitted by the House Speaker.

Bayless is an attorney with Winstead PC. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the District of Columbia Bar. He is chair of the Greater Houston Partnership Federal Relations Committee, and a member of the University of Texas (UT) System Archer Center Advisory Board and Longhorn Hall of Honor Court. He is also past federal government relations advisor for the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, past vice president of the UT Ex-Students' Association, and a past member of the UT McCombs School of Business Advisory Council.

He received a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law.
